Our 7 Step Painting Process
What is the 7 Step Painting Process?
Our 7-Step Professional Painting Process sets the industry benchmark for finish quality, durability, and consistency. Each stage is performed with precision and inspected under strict quality standards to ensure a flawless surface with uniform sheen and long-lasting protection.
Step 1 - Surface Preparation
Every piece begins with thorough preparation. The surface is sanded, cleaned, and conditioned to remove imperfections and ensure superior adhesion. Edges and profiles are hand-refined to achieve an even, seamless foundation. This attention to detail is what allows the finish to look smooth, balanced, and professional once complete.
Step 2 - Initial Primer Coat
A professional grade primer is applied to seal the substrate and stabilize the surface. This first coat prevents absorption, locks down fibers, and creates a uniform base that allows subsequent coatings to bond evenly and perform predictably over time.
Inspection 1 - Primer Quality Check
After the first primer coat cures, each part is examined under bright, cross-angle lighting to reveal even the smallest imperfections. Surfaces are lightly re-sanded and cleaned to restore a perfectly smooth, flawless feel before continuing.
Step 3 - Second Primer Coat
A second primer layer builds additional film thickness, evens color tone, and reinforces edge coverage. This step is crucial for long-term stability, especially on high use surfaces or components that will undergo handling and installation.
Inspection 2 - Primer Uniformity Check
Once the second primer dries, a second detailed inspection verifies film consistency and smoothness. Any inconsistencies are corrected to ensure the surface is completely uniform and ready for the color coats.
Step 4 - First Top Coat
A precision-sprayed industrial lacquer or polyurethane is applied using high-volume, low-pressure (HVLP) equipment for controlled atomization. This first top coat establishes the final color tone and begins building the signature Number 30 satin sheen, delivering smooth color saturation and visual depth.
Inspection 3 - Top Coat Finish Review
Each piece is re-inspected for color accuracy, surface texture, and film build. Any minor defects are addressed and corrected before proceeding to the final color application.
Step 5 - Second Top Coat
A second color coat deepens the tone and enhances durability. This layer ensures full coverage on all faces and edges, resulting in an even, luxurious finish that maintains its richness for years of daily use.
Inspection 4 - Final Color Verification
Our finishing team performs a final review under calibrated lighting to verify color integrity, uniform sheen, and flawless smoothness. Once approved, the piece advances to its final protective stage.
Step 6 - Protective Clear Coat
A crystal clear top layer is applied to seal and protect the finish. This coat locks in color, enhances depth, and provides advanced resistance to moisture, UV light, and everyday wear. The clear film adds dimensional richness while preserving the satin luster that defines our finish quality.
Step 7 - Final Polish
After the clear coat cures, each piece enters the final polish phase, a delicate, hands-on process that elevates the finish from excellent to extraordinary. Surfaces are micro sanded and gently buffed using fine polishing compounds to achieve a perfectly smooth, tactile feel.
Edges and corners are polished by hand to ensure continuous sheen across all planes. The surface is then carefully cleaned and inspected once more for depth, consistency, and flawless reflection. The result is a refined, furniture-grade finish at a true Number 30 satin sheen with a soft, sophisticated glow that’s durable, elegant, and built to last.
The Result
From start to finish, every shelf and panel passes through seven precision stages and four separate inspections, ensuring uniform color, smoothness, and sheen across every surface. The result is a cabinet grade finish that meets the expectations of professional designers, builders, and discerning homeowners alike setting the standard for painted quality in its class.
What does “30 Sheen Finish” mean?
All our coats, primer, color, and clear, are formulated to achieve a consistent 30 sheen finish. In paint terminology, sheen is measured on a gloss scale from 0 (matte) to 100 (high gloss).
A 30 sheen corresponds to a satin matte finish. It has a soft, elegant luster that gently reflects light without glare.
This level of sheen is ideal because it:
-
Enhances color depth and texture
-
Minimizes fingerprints and surface reflections
-
Provides a smooth, furniture-grade appearance
-
Offers excellent cleanability and durability
Why Our 7 Step Process Takes Time
This level of craftsmanship simply cannot be rushed. Each coating layer must cure naturally before sanding or recoating, and every inspection requires patient, careful handling. Temperature, humidity, and film thickness are all monitored to maintain exact curing conditions.
While faster, mass-production methods can produce quick color coverage, they cannot achieve the depth, smoothness, and tactile perfection that come from true multi stage finishing. Our finishers work deliberately, not hurriedly, to ensure that every shelf leaving our facility reflects the same professional, furniture grade quality we’re known for.
The result means longer production times, but unmatched results with finishes that feel as good as they look, built to last for decades.
